While doing general cleanups, I decided to open up the case at the back and clean out the dust that usually gathers in there (the spur case). It was dirty as hell. Anyway, so while cleaning it up, I noticed the pinion's set screw was completely loose, as was the attachment screws for the slipper assembly. No idea how they got this loose, and I am glad I saw it, everything was wobbly. So as a tip, check these things frequently. Perhaps one could use blue loc-tite on them to aid in maintaining the grip for a while? The slipper pads seemed to be still fine, so I didn't replace them. Also remember that you need to be able to run a paper strip through between the pinion and spur gears... check tolerances!
Goodnight :)
